    Description

Up for sale is an extremely rare Arri 16mm film duplicator similar to a Uhler. This is a pre-war item and marked "Made in Germany", and has a brass plaque for Arnold & Richter on the front. Well made duplicator features many brass fittings, a large electric motor, and a full sized lamp housing which takes a normal bulb (bulb not included as it is not original and likely to break in transit). I don't have a way to fully test this item, but I did power it up and I can tell you the following: the motor works just fine. The lamp lights up. The wiring is in good condition. The shutter, which is used to adjust exposure, works normally. I am sure it could use a thorough going over and greasing. It does have a few minor defects. First of all the wooden base was damaged in transit when it was shipped to me, this is cosmetic but worth noting. Second, there is a rubber belt that is used to interface the motor with the metal drive belt, and this needs to be replaced. You can see it in photo #8 below (may not be visible on a phone). Third, the power cord is in good condition but it is not grounded and definitely antique -- so if you are using this you will want to make it a bit safer I am sure.
The way this works seems to be pretty simple -- although I am not 100% sure as I cannot find any photos of this rare beast on-line -- I suspect it was used in complete darkness, with a print or negative strung up top with an unexposed piece of film sandwiched with it through the gate.
Very interesting, very rare piece that you can display, or use for duplication, optical printing, etc.
